Alongside Newsletter - Spring 2024 Edition

Nigel Clark welcomes you to Spring 2024 edition of ALONGSIDE newsletter from Solis Marine Group.

Welcome to our Spring edition of ALONGSIDE, our regular newsletter with articles and updates from around the Solis Marine Group.

We begin this edition with news that our engineering division, Solis Marine Engineering, is a member of a consortium that has won funding from Innovate UK to design a new class of low-carbon installation vessels for the floating offshore wind market. The consortium is led by Morek Engineering.

Next, we announce two new appointments within the Solis Group as we continue to expand our global team of expert marine consultants. Master Mariner Steve Thomason has joined our Singapore office, and Master Mariner Jamie Simpson has joined our UK operations based in our London and Hull offices. Steve and Jamie will bring additional expertise to the Group, with particular focus on our salvage, wreck removal, incident and casualty investigation, expert witness, and fire investigation services.

In April Solis Marine Engineering were an exhibitor at Singapore Maritime Week where we were pleased to discuss with visitors to our stand our work on clean shipping and offshore renewable energy projects.

Our Managing Partner Ros Blazejczyk is a Trustee of the Marine Technology Trust, and in our next article we bring news of the Application process for the Trust’s 2024 Bursaries. On the topic of the next generation coming into our industry, we follow this with some personal reflections by Anika Mtyelwa, a South African maritime student who attended Singapore Maritime Week and who took the opportunity to meet with Ken Elam our Singapore General Manager.

We end this edition of ALONGSIDE with some thoughts from Duncan Campbell, our UK General Manager and Head of Naval Architecture Services, who reflects on how data is now driving the investigation of shipping incidents and casualties, and how our own Rapid Replay incident investigation system is used in Solis Marine cases.

We hope you will enjoy reading Spring 2024 edition of the newsletter and look forward to bringing you the next edition in the summer.
