ALONGSIDE Newsletter - March 2026 issue

Nigel Clark invites you to read March 2026 edition of ALONGSIDE newsletter.

Welcome to our latest edition of ALONGSIDE, our regular newsletter with articles and updates from around the Solis Marine Group.

Within this edition we focus on Solis Marine’s salvage and wreck removal expertise and capabilities, and our significant experience gained over many years in casualty response.

We begin with an overview of our work on the wreck removal of the car carrier SERASI 1 from the Bangka Strait in Indonesia. Managed out of our Singapore office our team played a crucial role in the process over a two-year period, from initial response through to final site clearance.

We then announce the appointment of our Shanghai based China Country Manager, Captain Roland Orange, to the Lloyds panel of Special Casualty Representatives (SCRs). We are proud to now have five SCRs within the Group, reflecting our commitment to this important and often challenging area of work.

We then reflect on our global salvage, wreck removal, casualty and pollution response capability. With expertise based in our UK, Singapore, Shanghai, Malaysia and Indonesia locations we are able to provide the all-important immediate response to attend a casualty, and we support our work in the field with experienced teams based in our key offices. This leads on to a look at how our Naval Architects with experience of salvage and wreck removal operations support our teams in the field.

Turning next to news from around the Solis Marine Group, we share the announcement that we have appointed Dr Richard Gregory to the position of Head of Ports and Harbours. Based in the UK, Richard will lead the development of this service area on a global basis. We also announce the appointment of Master Mariner Suekanedra Subramaniam (aka Ken S), further strengthening the team in Singapore, and we then bring news of our new office and permanent presence in Malaysia.

To maintain our drive for growth we are now recruiting for an experienced marine engineer to fill the role of Head of Marine Engineering Services, a key position within the Solis Marine Group.

We end this edition with two examples of our work providing expert witness services. We reflect on the HAPPY ARRAS grounding and the expert evidence given by our Captain John Simpson on navigation issues, and we also look at John’s role as an expert maritime consultant to the Cranston inquiry.

We hope you will find this newsletter both interesting and informative and we look forward to bringing you our next edition in the summer.
