Solis Marine at Singapore Maritime Week in April 2024

Solis Marine exhibits at Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) for the first time.

Our Singapore engineering team was joined by Managing Director Simon Hindley on our stand at the Expo@SMW from 15 to 19 April 2024 to share with delegates our ongoing work in clean shipping and marine renewables.

Exhibiting at SMW was a first for Solis Marine and, as with all such efforts, there was a degree of trepidation as to whether it would be worthwhile. But as luck would have it, plenty of people were happy to listen. Attendance at the Expo was fantastic, with genuine interest in our work in future fuels from visitors around the world, as well as here in Singapore.

The general discussion around future fuels appears to polarise opinion, in particular Team Ammonia vs Team Hydrogen. We definitely saw elements of this at SMW; strong opinions fuelled (excuse the pun) by a strong desire to make a difference.

At Solis Marine, we are agnostic as far as the technology options go. We have completed projects with ammonia, hydrogen, fully electric, methanol, fuel cell and hybrid systems. We also happen to think nuclear technology has a role to play.

Most people appreciate that there is no silver bullet and from our experience it will be duty cycle and operating profile that drive technology preferences. But for any new fuel technology to succeed, the twin pillars of (green) fuel supply and regulatory framework must be developed in parallel and there is plenty of work to be done here too.

Our thanks go to SMW, and specifically the team that organised the Expo who could not have been more helpful. Thank you also to everyone who stopped by for a chat.
