Jamie is a master mariner based in London, providing expert witness and marine casualty services. He is a member of the Lloyd's Panel of Special Casualty Representatives (SCR) and holds lead auditor certification for ISM, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
He has provided expert advice to lawyers, property and war risk insurers and P&I Clubs on collisions, groundings, unsafe ports and berths, vessel handling with and without tugs, pilotage, ECDIS, safety management systems, bridge resource management, cargo operations including breakbulk, RoRo and container cargo, and personal injuries and fatalities.
He has attended salvage operations and wreck removals internationally, including in Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, South America, and Asia, and provided technical advice during the drafting of BIMCO salvage contracts on behalf of International Group P&I Clubs.
Salvage attendances include:
- ‘MARINE HONOR’ oil spill response in Singapore
- Tanker with a flooded engine room following an attack by limpet mine
- Bulk carrier with grounding damage to the propeller and rudder and contaminated ammonium nitrate cargo
- Bulk carrier with disabled steering offshore Chittagong
- Cape size bulk carrier aground at Alexandria
- Handy sized bulk carrier aground at Alexandria
Wreck removal attendances include:
- Live fish carrier in Chilean Patagonia fjord
- VLCC ‘AMURIYAH’ sunk by the U.S military during the operation Desert Storm offshore Iraq
- ‘Iraq UXO and Wreck Removal Project’ offshore Iraq
Jamie has over 10 years of command experience on passenger/cargo liners trading worldwide and RoPax ferries on the Dover Straits and Irish Sea. Including the UK-flagged 'ST HELENA' carrying the Extreme E electric racing fleet from South America to Saudi Arabia via the Chilean fjords, Magellan Strait and Suez Canal, and a newbuild hybrid diesel-electric battery ferry with Azipod propulsion on the Dover-Calais route.
His vessel handling experience includes over3,000 pilot transits and berthing/unberthing manoeuvres while holding pilot exemptions for Dover, Calais, Milford Haven, Dublin, Holyhead, the River Humberto Hull, and Zeebrugge, in command of vessels with both conventional and Azipod propulsion.
Jamie has attended multiple dry dockings and vessel conversions, including steering system renewals, bridge equipment upgrades, and transitions to paperless ECDIS navigation, coordinating with flag state and classification surveyors for obtaining approvals.
Earlier seagoing experience includes deck officer roles on traditional geared general cargo vessels with tween decks and deep tanks, geared container vessels, cruise vessels trading worldwide, and RoRo paper product carriers with ice navigation experience in the Baltic.
As a marine consultant in the Middle East, Jamie conducted incident investigations and prepared expert reports on collisions, groundings, personal injuries and fatalities, oil and bulk cargo contaminations, pollution incidents, tank coating failures, cargo tank damage, and notice of readiness and charterparty disputes. He acted as client representative for jack-up rig moves, attended marine warranty surveys (MWS)for project cargoes, and provided expertise on rig and barge towage operations.
He has surveyed oil tankers, chemical tankers and bulk carriers on behalf of hull and machinery, P&I and loss of hire insurers.
